Patmian stone villa (ref: 45027)

Patmian stone villa

Stay on a unique island in luxury surroundings

A finely located property with a pool with sea views, just above a small pebble beach, half way between Chora and the port of Skala, both of which are a five minute drive away.

The villa has been newly built to high specifications, and offers comfort, space, and location to those wanting a more luxurious option than the pretty village houses in Chora.

The road from the village runs underneath the house, which is approached through imposing gates and a private drive.

The villa is stone- built following the typical Patmian architectural elements of arches, vaults and arcades, with split level rooms and the charming Patmian “Sofa” platform beds. The addition of air conditioning and other modern features make this a welcome addition to the Patmos villa scene.

Patmos is famous for being the location where St. John wrote the Book of Revelations after communing with God in a cave. This cave can still be visited and is on the track between Chora and Skala. The name Chora is used on most of the Greek islands for the main town while Skala is usually the name of the harbour town. The island is dominated by the monastery of St. John which is visible from the port town of Skala. The island has a wonderful landscape with rocky formations that form strange shapes and wonderful flora which creates amazing colours when the sun is going down. It is a fascinating place to explore on foot although there is a bus service and cars and bikes can be hired. A group of water fowl have made their home around the beach at Skala and often cross the road in front of it in a disorderly group so please drive carefully! The island had lots of little beaches, some with waterside tavernas where you can relax and wonder over to look at donkeys. You can visit the nearby islands or the more remote beaches of Patmos by boat. The monastery of St. John of course is a must to visit with its library and wonderful relics. At the top of the island there is also a windmill from where you can view the monastery and other parts of the island. The towns of Chora and Skala have narrow cobbled streets with shutters of various hues which are crying out to be photographed. Water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing and canoeing are on offer on Patmos. The island combines everything you could wish for on a Greek island, history, wonderful nature, traditions and lovely little beaches. Do not miss it!

Patmos can be reached by ferry from Athens' port, Piraeus, every day. The journey takes from 7 to 10 hours. Ferries are large with comfortable sleeping cabins. The return to Piraeus is normally overnight.

An alternative route to Patmos is by air to the Dodecanese islands of Samos or Kos (international charter airports) followed by hydrofoil to Patmos, which takes an hour and a half.
